Youth held over house stabbing

0 Comments | Herald, The; Glasgow (UK), Jul 29, 2010 | by ALISON CAMPSIE

A YOUTH aged 16 is due to appear at Paisley sheriff court today in connection with the alleged double stabbing of a couple in their home.

Martial arts expert Johannes Alder, 37, and his wife Elizabeth, 38, suffered serious injuries after an incident at their house in Saucelhill Terrace, Paisley, in the early hours of last Friday.

Alder, originally from Norway, is a five-time British champion in sombo wrestling.

He and his wife underwent surgery at the Royal Alexandra Hospital after suffering serious injuries.

The couple were released from hospital at the weekend and were seen collecting belongings from the house. They were said to be staying with friends outside the Paisley area.

Police said they had received a positive response following a public appeal for information.

Alder has won the Scottish Championships nearly every year for the last 10 years.

The couple were spoken highly of at the weekend by Robin Hyslop, chairman of the British Sombo Federation. He said: “Johannes and Liz are just great people.

“Johannes has the same qualities and is liked by all who compete in judo and sombo wrestling. He became my student at a young age and then went on to train at Glasgow clubs when he went to university.”

A spokeswoman for Strathclyde Police confirmed last night that a 16 year-old man was in police custody following his arrest.

Fitch Downgrades UCBH Holdings’ IDR to ‘B+’; Remains on Watch Negative

Business Wire, June 26, 2009

NEW YORK — Fitch Ratings has downgraded the long-term Issuer Default Ratings (IDRs)
of UCBH Holdings, Inc. (UCBH) and its bank subsidiary, United Commercial
Bank, to ‘B ‘ and ‘BB-’, respectively. The ratings remain on Rating
Watch Negative. A full list of ratings appears at the end of this
release.

The downgrade reflects the magnitude of credit deterioration in UCBH’s
loan book to date, as well as Fitch’s expectation for a continued
decline in asset quality. Fitch anticipates that loss rates will remain
elevated given the company’s exposure to commercial real estate,
particularly its construction portfolio in the distressed real estate
markets of California and Nevada. The rating action also considers
UCBH’s weak tangible common equity position relative to its significant
exposure to commercial real estate

Ravens’ Lewis, Cowboys’ Owens should crank up the stats this week

USA TODAY, December, 2006 by Nate Davis

Week 15′s fantasy landscape: Projected fantasy studs Jamal Lewis: He might not have another record day — Lewis’ 295-yard day in 2003 came at home vs. Cleveland — but the Ravens’ top running back is getting the ball more and should be the latest to run roughshod over the Browns. Terrell Owens: This is a homecoming game for T.O.

He might not even have to contend much with DeAngelo Hall if the Falcons’ top corner is asked to lock down the speedier Terry Glenn. Projected fantasy duds Willie Parker: Fast Willie averages 132 rushing yards a game at home

However, a change in market strategy has finally started to penetrate this market as pet insurance companies move from having veterinarians sell insurance to advertising insurance directly to consumers.

Sweeping changes in the pet insurance industry have occurred only recently. Some say for the better. Levels of care previously considered prohibitive are now available to the average pet owner.

Critics see a gloomier outlook as a result of the changes, however. In their eyes, adding insurance to veterinary medicine will follow the path of insurance red tape and problems found in human health care.

Veterinary medicine is one of the few health care professions that is not financially based on insurance. Unlike most medical, surgical, dental, and pharmacy cases in human medicine, veterinary customers are responsible for costs incurred — including preventive and routine care, emergency and disease conditions.

Most companies start policies at age 6-8 weeks.

But it?s far more complicated than that. Carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, each get converted to energy but each take a different path. Before I start on how fat is burned (or broken down), let me first explain a few key terms in the process of converting food to energy:

ATP: Adenosine Tri-Phosphate is energy. It?s what the body uses as fuel at the cellular level. It can be produced using oxygen (aerobic), or without the presence of oxygen (anaerobic).

Glycolysis: An anaerobic process where glucose is converted to pyruvic acid.

Pyruvic Acid: If oxygen is available it is converted into acetyl CoA. If no oxygen is available it is converted into lactic acid.

Acetyl CoA: All this potential energy can only be achieved if it enters the Krebs Cycle, and to do this it must first be converted in to acetyl CoA.

Krebs Cycle: This is an eight step cycle that amongst other things, removes hydrogen and carbon-dioxide. It also produces a small amount of ATP.

The Electron Transport Chain: The final process in the breakdown of foods. This is where most of the ATP is formed.

How Fat Is Broken Down

There are a number of fats in the body but it?s the triglycerides, or ?neutral fats?, that are usually converted to energy.

Iran announced today that it

Iran announced today that it signed up 200 people for suicide missions on US and Western Targets? Well is this the kind of nation you want in the ?nuclear club? and if so how can you justify that to the future vaporized victims in some modern civilian city? Some liberal contend that we failed to win the hearts and minds of the Muslim People? And they continually say we will not have any allies for another war and state things such as;

?Even if they had wanted and supported American intervention, they now hate America.?

I am not interested in being loved by anyone. I am interested in preventing international terrorists with nuclear weapons and US Troops being killed in Iraq by Iranian insurgents. I would rather be ?Feared and Respected? as my second choice. You cannot negotiate with International Terrorists or the regimes and nation state?s who leadership supports them. This is silly to try to win the hearts and minds of the people when Al Jazeera is polluting their minds along with the Iranian President?s hate speech, while blocking satellite TV with microwaves cooking the brains of the populous? Give me a break.

Conservatory as a third reception

0 Comments | Plymouth Evening Herald, The, May 20, 2010

THIS three-bedroom semi in a cul-de-sac in Saltash has a single garage and off-road parking for two cars.

The garage has a suspended floor with inspection pit, metal up- and-over door, two windows, fitted storage, power and light.

Outside, there is also a level and enclosed rear garden with a patio with ample space for garden furniture. A lawn extends from the patio towards the rear of the garden which is enclosed by various trees and shrubs, creating a good deal of privacy.

The rear garden has wood panel fencing to all sides and provides a level outdoor space, ideal for families or anyone wanting a low maintenance garden.

Accommodation includes three good-size bedrooms, modern kitchen, bathroom, and a conservatory that stretches the width of the property. This would make an ideal second reception room; it enjoys a good deal of afternoon and evening sun.

Mains gas is connected to the house so buyers have the option to fit a central heating system. The property is on the market with Fox & Sons (01752 847151) at Pounds 179,950.

Lucky made it

Lucky made it a couple of minutes longer until he chomped down on Elaine’s chin when she thought he was going to cuddle. That did it for him. I think he will receive an extra long sentence for that one.

Elaine’s leaving shortly to visit friends, and I’ll retreat to my room soon thereafter. Bailey and Lucky can ponder the absence of their two hand-servants from jail…and reflect. Maybe tomorrow will be a brighter day.

For all the temporary little annoyances that residing with a cockatoo and a parrot bring, they are also very loving, intelligent, and as full of personality as a feathered Robin Williams. If you have patience, persistence, and a loving heart, they can make wonderful additions to any family
